Material

Commonly used rubber gasket include: ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), nitrile rubber (NBR), fluororubber (FKM), neoprene rubber (CR), butyl rubber (IIR), etc.

Advantages of rubber padsgasket: relatively cheap price, good resilience, wear resistance, and good sealing performance. It is an ideal material for gaskets.

Disadvantages of rubber gasket: limited by the temperature resistance of rubber, insufficient pressure bearing capacity, and swelling in some oily media, it is mainly used in low temperature and low pressure conditions.


The physical and chemical properties of rubber are affected by the rubber matrix, fillers, mixtures, processing, etc., but mainly depend on the rubber matrix used.

NBR nitrile rubber: It is polymerized from butadiene matrix, suitable for hydrocarbons, water and other media, and has good low temperature resistance. However, it has poor weather resistance, is sensitive to common hydrocarbons such as naphtha and gasoline, and may swell, so its application is limited.

EPDM ethylene propylene rubber: It is polymerized from ethylene and propylene matrix. It has good resistance to water, water vapor, ozone, atmospheric environment, weak acid, etc., but is sensitive to some lubricating oils and some hydrocarbons. Plate heat exchangers whose medium is water or low-pressure steam often use this type of gasket.
